Welcome to day 16 of Thingadailies. Want to play along? The full video is here.
Today's starting point: 15:52
Ending point: 16:43
Today was all about making the man look like he belonged in the same picture.
We started like this:
He's standing partially in the shade of a huge tree and that's not what it looks like now.
Step 1: Drop the levels & saturation
This is the first time he's changed the hue & saturation in this tutorial (that I can remember). It's a minimal change here, because dropping the levels was such a huge change.
After that, there's a bit of masking on the right side to put in highlights.
Anyhow, this is what we have:
Step 2: Draw in some shadows.
There's probably some best practice about putting in a guideline to show the angle of light so all your shadows go in the same direction... I'll have to look into that. Anyhow, I added some shadows.
And that's where we're going to leave it for the day. Tomorrow, we add birds.
Tip of the day:
The shadows coming from a distant light source should ideally all be parallel.
