It looks a bit like the dogs have moved to a place with snow. Also, because of the slapdash manner of the mask editing, it looks a bit like the dogs are levitating or that the original picture didn't have the dogs in it.

What Photo Editing Software are you using. I love the way the 2nd image looks. Makes the dogs really stand out. Beautiful.
I think you could do this with most of them, but I'm using GIMP. It may not be as intuitive to use as Photoshop, but there are a lot of tutorials online.
