This evening I made the "red rose star", which adjectivizes the noun but it's as good a name as any. (Did I mention that I got through my English classes on the strength of my writing and not my ability to tell the parts of speech? I'm betting you could have figured that out by now.)
After the folding projects getting a little harder every day, the red rose star is a gimme. In fact, it is (and I quote) "so easy, even a child could make it." Which is why I decided I could have a cider and not botch the thing too badly.
It's not perfect, but that has a lot more to do with my slapdash nature than the alcohol. Also, not to always blame my equipment or anything, but my scissors kind of suck. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Stars Don't Fall So Much As Get Chewed Up
It's hazardous to be a star around here...
Today's star is in honor of me getting my life back someday really soon now. The dog will be especially happy about this since it's almost 10pm and we have yet to go for a walk.
Kind of pretty when backlit:
Perhaps I should hang these up somewhere to preserve them...

Disco Star
Okay, really the title in the book is "round star" or something equally boring, but if there was ever an origami star that calls out for disco music (*), this is it.
Today's helper was Scooter:
The final product as seen on the table:
-----
* Note I didn't actually say that any origami star calls out for disco music.
Today's helper was Scooter:
Mostly his help consisted of sitting on the box and then rubbing his head against my hands as I was trying to fold paper.
The final product as seen on the table:
And backlit:
And there we have it -- day six of Thingadailies!-----

Such a Square
Every day brings new challenges and a new chance to learn something. For example, today I managed to put the iPod Touch into some mode where it took about twenty pictures in one second. (There's also an accidental short video in which the audio consists of me swearing as I try to figure out how I got it into video mode.) In any case, this evening I learned how to delete nineteen of those photos. So it wasn't a total loss.
Today's star is a "square star". The directions were... not quite as good as I needed. That might just be because I am tired and having problems focusing my eyes, but I think the main problem is that I was trying to follow the instructions illustrated by a tiny photo wherein a little square is folded and both sides of the paper are pink. It took a few tries to figure out what they meant.
I'd probably have better luck taking these pictures if I wasn't trying to hold the iPod in one hand and the backlit star in the other. Maybe at some point I'll work on that...

Even Stars Die
Day four of Thingadailies. I'm starting to worry because there are only twenty different stars in the book and twenty-eight (or maybe 29, I'm too lazy to look it up) days in the month. I will worry about that later.
When I got to the editing/craft table this evening I found a massacre of sorts had happened.
I'm not sure exactly what happened to the blue star, but I suspect furry feet were involved.
Anyhow, today's project was a curvy star with a hole in the middle. Not much to look at here...
... but pretty cool when it has light shining through:
I think this one is my favorite of the four. But I'm fickle. I might change my mind tomorrow.
In work news, yesterday one of the big sites had a power outage, and the generator kicked in and then the power cord from the generator blew up (or something like that -- I never got the details). Anyhow, they got it all working again, but I'm pretty sure that for a little while our director was bridging the distance a la Billy Idol. The moral of this story is that I have way too many brain cells devoted to storing details of music videos from the 1980s.

The Donut Star (Like the Death Star, Only Crumbier)
It's day 3 of Thingadailies! Seriously, though, go check out what other people are doing. I say this even though it makes me look like a talentless hack.
Today's star has a hole in the middle. Also, today it became abundantly clear that if you're supposed to have eight equal pieces to begin with and you have a problem cutting with scissors, clever folding will only hide that problem so much and no more.
I used the green paper today and it's a bit mottled, so it looks exactly like nori. I spent the whole time thinking about sushi.
In other news, my bathroom had a fashion shoot today by a professional photographer. I feel better about my pictures -- he had a lot of expensive equipment with him and then spent about two hours taking photos. Of a bathroom. I mean, it's a really nice bathroom especially compared to how it was before, but really...

It's Full of Stars!
Pro Tip: Don't try to eat football party food for ten days straight. You'll be sorry.
Here's my entry for day two of Thingadailies:
It's a curvy star even though everything is made from straight lines.
And here are the results from both days together:
My other thought this evening is that it's good that the kit came with a glue stick instead of Superglue or I'd still be stuck at the table...
